Why the detail matters
Grating is made to order. A quote given without the span and the load has to assume them, and those assumptions are what cause mismatches later.
The essentials
- Opening dimensions: clear width, length and the seating detail.
- Clear span: measured in the bearing direction.
- Bearing direction: which way the bars must run.
- Load case: pedestrian, forklift, vehicle or equipment.
- Quantity and destination: for pricing and freight.
Configuration detail
- Bearing-bar size and pitch, if already specified.
- Surface: plain or serrated.
- Material and finish: galvanized, painted or stainless.
- Frame, hinge, lock or lifting requirements.
- Cut-outs, notches and any penetrations.
What delays a quote
- Missing span or bearing direction.
- No stated load case, so the panel cannot be sized.
- Unclear drawings where dimensions conflict.
- Unknown finish or material requirement.

Quote Information FAQ
Can I get a price from the size alone?
A rough one, but span and load are needed for a quote you can order from.
Do I need a drawing?
Not always, but a dimensioned sketch removes most ambiguity.
What if I do not know the load?
Describe the traffic—pedestrian, forklift or truck—and the span can be checked against it.
